The edition A total of ten versions of the opéra-comique Carmen were produced, from Georges Bizet's first writing in 1874 to the first printing of the score in 1877. In the course of years of fundamental research, new findings emerged with regard to the timing, occasion and authorship of all the changes made to Carmen. These findings, combined with the extensive network of primary and secondary literature and the results of revised script analyses, led to new insights into Bizet's actual intentions. Material All numbers of the opera are now available separately as individual titles - score and piano reduction for sale, the performance material on loan. The critical report (order number LVGH 1287 90) is available on loan and will initially be available for purchase digitally in the new APP from fall 2021. The music pages for the individual titles were taken from the score, piano reduction and orchestral parts of the new critical edition. This means that the page numbers, bar numbers and layout are unchanged and congruent with the material of the entire stage work. The material is characterized by the good legibility of the musical text and by the - without exception - included turnarounds in the orchestral parts. The musical text is preceded by a corresponding article on the versions and their progression, and a progression table is provided. The editor's demand for the greatest possible transparency and accuracy in the scholarly edition is thus balanced by the requirement for the highest quality and legibility in the musical notation. On the publication of the stage work / versions A/B/C/d With the exception of the version of the first printed score, all of the eight playable versions have been published in the new critical edition Carmen - Comprehensive Edition by Michael Rot (including for the first time the partially lost first version of no. 26 (Duo final) as a reconstruction): A-1: First transcription with dialogues - summer 1874 A : Definitive first version with dialogues - late summer 1874 B-1: Intermediate version immediately before the premiere B: Version of the premiere with dialogues - March 1875 C: Corrected premiere version - March 1875 d: Version with recitatives - summer 1875 d+1: Corrected recitative version - summer 1875 The sequence Version letters and jump signs mark the sequence of each version and guide the reader through the musical text. They are shown in the score, the piano reduction and the orchestral parts and are synchronized with the bar numbers.
