The Hölderlin cycle for voice and piano was commissioned by the Tübinger Kammermusikfreunde e.V. in 2023 and 2024. The world premiere took place in March 2025 in Tübingen, performed by baritone Julian Dominique Clement and pianist Sebastian Fuß.

The song cycle comprises six short poems by the poet Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), who was born in Lauffen am Neckar, which are characterized by a wide variety of characteristics and moods.
However, they all have one thing in common: they address the diversity of life and at the same time reveal a deep connection to nature and human experience. At the same time, they give an idea of the tensions and inner contradictions that shaped Hölderlin's eventful life and his poetic expressiveness.
Moritz Laßmann was guided in his composition by the words of the poems, which marked out both the path and the goal for the music. The harmony developed by listening to the piano, which also influenced the lines of the vocal part. The result was a harmonious interplay of words and music that reflects the emotional depth of the poems.
