Ruperto Chapi

Las Hijas Del Zebedeo Carceleras

Valencian composer Ruperto Chapi (1851 1909) was a popular and important artist in Spain in his time, writing symphonic, band, Choral and chamber works as well as more than one hundred zarzuelas, many of which ran more than one hundred nights on the stage in Madrid and elsewhere. This form of comic musical semi-opera employed both spoken dialogue and musical numbers. This song, Carceleras, Al pensar en el dueño de mis amores, from Las Hijas Del Zebedeo, has retained its popularity and is frequently performed and recorded. The style is almost a patter song, allegretto, requiring verbal and Vocal dexterity from the soloist. The text is in Spanish, untranslated.
