Leonhard Lechner, born around 1553 in the Adige Valley, served as court Kapellmeister in Stuttgart, where he died in 1606. Not only were his sacred compositions highly regarded, but his secular works were also greatly appreciated. His collection *Newe Teutsche Lieder Zu drey Stimmen Nach art der Welschen Villanellen* is considered one of his most successful song publications.
This edition is based on the second edition from 1577. In addition to a purely vocal performance, a mixed vocal-instrumental ensemble is also suitable. A purely instrumental ensemble featuring recorders, violas da gamba, or other melodic instruments also works well.
