In view of the great popularity of Terry's two masses published by Butz Verlag (Mass of St Gregory, BU 2538, "Dominikusmesse", BU 2862), the wish was expressed that the third mass by the choir director of Westminster Cathedral could also be preserved in a modern new edition. Terry was one of the most distinguished figures in English church music of his day. After the founding of the Catholic Diocese of London and the construction of Westminster Cathedral, he was appointed its first music director. His music breathes the sound of this environment and combines unobtrusive counterpoint with elegant harmonizations and catchy melodies. The practitioner Terry is also clearly noticeable, so that the composition can be rehearsed without difficulty and the solo vocal repertoire can be enriched by a stylish note.
