Description:
The fifth volume of the "Songs and Choral Works" section of the Reger Works Edition (RWA) comprises the songs composed between June 1906 and May 1915 as well as the piano reductions of the orchestral songs "To Hope" op. 124 and "Hymn of Love" op. 136. In addition to the continuation of the "Simple Wise Men" op. 76 (Volumes III–VI), occasional and commissioned compositions play a greater role. For the publishers N. Simrock and Otto Forberg, Reger delivered the song collections Opus 98 and 104, individual contributions were written for magazines and music albums (WoO VII 38–41) or are personal gifts (WoO VII 42–44).
The "Three Duets" op. 111a for soprano and alto were written on the occasion of a concert. Some compositions have a biographical background. The two final volumes of the "Simple Wise Men" are the setting of children's poems for the two adopted daughters Christa and Lotti, the "Five New Children's Songs" op. Reger wrote 142 for his godchildren. Since January 2008, the Max Reger Institute (MRI) in Karlsruhe has been producing a scientific-critical edition of Reger's works (RWA). It is funded by the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and, as a hybrid edition, breaks new ground in editing technology.
The digital offer belonging to the volume is published in an online portal.
