After his great successes in Berlin and Paris as a composer of songs and film music, Walter Jurmann wrote songs at MGM in Hollywood for the film stars of his time. From 1935 he composed for Judy Garland, Marta Eggerth and Deanna Durbin, for numerous films of the Marx Brothers, among others, and he wrote the title song for the film San Francisco which became the city's official song. Jurmann's versatility shows in his writing compositions in the style of a Viennese waltz ('You and the Waltz and I') as well as the spiritual 'All God's Chillun Got Rhythm' which still is one of the best known jazz standards today. Three songs from Jurmann's musical Windy City are published in this edition for the first time. New edition containing 50 songs, published by the Society of Friends and Promoters of the Work of Walter Jurmann e.V. With a text on Walter Jurmann's work in Hollywood by Saskia Kuhlmann and a preface by Dieter Kosslick (festival director of the Berlin International Film Festival).
