Description:
With *Turmwächterlied* and Other Songs, Op. 8, Alexander Zemlinsky presents an extraordinary song cycle that bridges the late Romantic period and the dawn of modernism. The works blend hope, doubt, pain, and spiritual longing into a compelling musical whole. In the monumental *Turmwächterlied*, Zemlinsky unfolds a soundscape of epic grandeur, while the other songs captivate with their sophisticated harmonies, luminous piano timbres, and great emotional depth. Antony Beaumont’s new critical edition makes this significant work accessible in a reliable form for the first time and invites listeners to rediscover it.
