Description:
Only fragmentary lines have survived from the Greek poet Sappho (ca. 630-570 BC), one of the most important poets of antiquity. Her texts, often characterized by intense emotionality and sensual precision, focus on love, longing and the fleeting nature of the moment. The fragmentary remains of her poems - sometimes only individual words or scraps of sentences - seem like poetic splinters that still offer a fascinating openness for interpretation today.
Based on four of these fragments, the German composer Isabel Mundry wrote the cycle "Wait" in 2021 as a commissioned work for the 70th ARD International Music Competition. The special feature: The songs are available in versions for all four voice parts (EB 9424 alto and bass, EB 9423 soprano and tenor), which makes them a flexible yet challenging work for singers.
