Description:
Duet singing offers an excellent opportunity to explore the facets of spontaneous music-making together, to increase sensitivity and musicality. When two singing people get involved with each other, a special interaction arises and they breathe together, listen to each other and feel each other. Categories such as energy, as it arises in joint vibration, contribute to giving life and contour to the interpretation.
Singers face a variety of challenges in their training and professional practice. Intonation, phrasing, pronunciation and dynamic shaping are just a few examples. Sooner or later, many singers come across Nicola Vaccai's Metodo pratico, which deals with a central theme of vocal teaching such as a certain interval, runs, suspensions, trills, portamento and declamation in recitative in the form of a melodious little composition. An ingenious trick that combines technical aspects with real music, making practicing particularly fun. In 2016, Steffen Wolf transferred the concept to singing in German in "Wege zum Liedgesang" (EB 8848, 8849 and 8850). However, an edition dealing with the special aspects of duet singing was missing. Until today, because with "Wege zum Duettgesang" this gap has been closed.
Steffen Wolf composed 24 song duets on texts by Heinrich Heine, which enable beginners and advanced singers alike to practise the specific requirements of duet singing in a lively way. With their sonority, intensity and esprit, Heine's words also make the subject of language treatment a pleasure. Each piece is devoted to a fundamental aspect and is provided with short pedagogical comments. The rather light piano part also allows the accompanying teacher to remain completely focused on the singing. The varied compositions are equally suitable for practicing, making music and performing in a cyclical form. The stylistic reference to the Romantic period enables easy access to the musical level and makes it easier to focus on the respective learning aspect. The edition is supplemented by the audio tracks available for download in MP3 format via a QR code: while the concert versions offer pure listening pleasure, the tracks with quiet first or second voice provide a reliable practice and music-making partner.
Wege zum Duettgesang is published in an edition in the middle voice range, which enables performance in all conceivable combinations. The recordings provide numerous examples of this.
