Description:
Piano single edition, shanty from New Zealand, with lyrics and chord indication.
"Soon May the Wellerman Come", also Wellerman, is a whaling song and shanty from New Zealand, which was written between 1860 and 1870. The song describes the situation of the crew of the "Billy o' Tea", who are on a whale hunt and await the arrival of a "Wellerman", a provision ship from the Welle brothers. At the beginning of 2021, the song became known through versions by "The Longest Johns" and "Nathan Evans", who landed a No. 1 hit in Germany with his version. In the course of this, German-language bands such as "Santiano" also covered this shanty. The Bundeswehr Choir also released a version of this shanty.
