Description:

  • Genre: Classical Music
These three essays were ordered by my friend and publisher Jean-Pierre Mathez and premiered on July 3, 1968, at the Municipal Theater, by the student brass ensemble he directed, on the occasion of the annual graduation ceremony of the Lausanne Conservatory (Switzerland). Ulrich Kohler, July 2012, Yverdon, Switzerland ''[...] in Ulrich Kohler's ''Trois essais'' [Three Essays], a skillful architect reveals himself in concise, taut language. I particularly enjoyed certain sound structures that mention Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements... A gifted nature expresses itself there [...]'' ( Gazette de Lausanne of July 6-7, 1968, excerpt from the music review by Jean Perrin [1920-1989], Swiss composer). These three short movements are like subtle and delicate kaleidoscopes of sound which bring out the innumerable resources of macro- and micro-contrasts (timbres, articulations, dynamics) of the brass instruments.
