A Short Take on Love was originally intended for a trombone octet and was premiered several years ago by the ensemble "Bone Machine," which the composer had the pleasure of conducting. As the title suggests, the work is a musical tribute to love in all its forms. Stylistically, it moves freely between classical and jazz idioms, is motivically structured, and is largely through-composed. The composer has arranged the piece for low brass instruments to make it accessible to a larger, more diverse, and more common ensemble.
