Description:
Antiphonies (Wechselgesänge) is written for two brass quintets and although sometimes both quintets play together as a large brass ensemble, the work is mainly based on antiphonal principles. Sometimes the sequences consist of similar material flowing from one group to the other or the quintets exchange contrasting musical phrases. For me, the brass instruments offer extraordinary, extreme possibilities for musical expression - dynamically as well as emotionally - and I have therefore tried to bring out as many as possible here.
