Description:
Charles Reskin's Brass Quintet No. 2 is a lively, three-movement work inspired by the fascinating world of alpine skiing. Each movement takes the listener on its own musical descent, blending technical brilliance with depth of expression. The first movement, Giant Slalom, starts out of the gate with energy and speed. Precise rhythms and perfectly coordinated interplay reflect the fast turns and directional changes of a slalom run, capturing the excitement and unpredictability of the sport. The second movement, Elegy, offers a moment of reflection. Sonorous, lyrical lines and warm harmonies create a reflective atmosphere - perhaps as a tribute to a skier who has died in an accident or as an expression of the quiet beauty of the mountain landscape. The last movement, The Last Run - Black Diamond, brings the work to a thrilling finale. Named after the most challenging ski slopes, this part is fast, powerful and daring - full of rhythmic drive and striking gestures that push the musicians to their limits. With this quintet, Reskin combines narrative power, virtuosity and emotion - and gives both the performers and the audience a rousing and energetic musical experience.
