Description:
RASS'N ROLL is a scherzo for brass ensemble and percussion (16 brass players and 4 percussionists), composed in a decidedly energetic and contemporary style. The work explores a distinctive rhythmic universe in which the power of the brass and the pulse of the percussion create a spectacular dynamic that at times approaches that of a large rock ensemble. Composed under the strong influence of rock music, BRASS'N ROLL deliberately incorporates specific instrumental effects reminiscent of electric guitar techniques—such as bends and riffs—which have been adapted for the brass ensemble. The musical language plays with contrasts, sudden tempo accelerations, and powerful sonic effects, showcasing the performers’ virtuosity through technical and syncopated passages. The percussion heightens the dramatic tension while simultaneously contributing to the work’s festive energy. An original aspect of the score lies in the possibility of involving the audience in the performance through a simple clapping motif, creating a playful and captivating moment in which the listeners briefly become a percussive part of the ensemble. BRASS'N ROLL thus presents itself as a brilliant, rousing, and thoroughly spectacular work.
