Description:
Burlesco in 4 movements by Jean-François Michel is an independent work, rich in wit, contrasts and subtle artistic irony. Written for the unusual trio of F horn, trombone and piano, it unfolds as a playful yet expressive musical dramaturgy. True to the composer's subtle humor and keen eye, this suite depicts the often burlesque backstage of the art world in four impressive images - its departures, its illusions and its inevitable disappointments. The first movement, Intrada of the great project, opens the work with brilliance and energy. The brass proclaims an almost celebratory ambition, reflecting the enthusiastic momentum that accompanies every great creative idea. But behind this radiant surface, there is already a hint of irony. The second movement, with its provocatively humorous title - The thought of art is impenetrable, or the deep-sea worlds of "opportunistic artists"... nothingness - creates a mysterious, floating atmosphere. The instrumental lines drift through dark depths of sound, reflecting the emptiness that can hide behind overly skillful or hollow artistic poses. In the scherzo of words and useless promises, Michel strikes a sharper note. Light rhythms, short motifs and lively dialogs draw a musical satire of empty speeches and promises never kept. The result is an amused but clearly transparent movement of sound. The work closes with great simplicity in the chorale - "Draw the curtain... back to silence... that's better". After illusions and masques, this chorale offers a calm, almost philosophical final reflection. The curtain falls and silence - the last refuge of artistic truth - returns. With Burlesco, Jean-François Michel has created a brilliant, intelligent and deeply human work in which humor and clarity come together and the music becomes a playful mirror of the creative world.
