Description:
Work for 2 trumpets and 2 trombones With Contes Quadriphoniques, Robert Delanoff takes us into an idiosyncratic world of sound that hovers between musical narrative and sonic experimentation. Composed for a brass quartet - two trumpets and two trombones - the three-movement work explores the many facets of instrumental communication: dialog, confrontation, resonance and fusion. The first movement, "Point d'ébullition" (Boiling Point), unfolds an increasing tension in which the four instruments wrestle with each other in almost volcanic energy. Motifs collide, respond to each other and finally culminate in a gripping climax. In "Souvenirs de 1961", Delanoff recalls a nostalgic past with subtle restraint. The harmonies become softer, the musical gestures more introspective - like a distant echo of an era long gone, yet sonically alive. Finally, "Blues d'Artifice" concludes the work in a playful and virtuoso manner. Between swing and modern sound effects, the composer takes up the spirit of the blues with wit and brilliance and gives the performers a field of musical freedom and joy of playing. Contes Quadriphoniques presents itself as a contrasting sound fresco in which color, dynamics and rhythm become the actual narrators.
