Queen of the Night The Queen of the Night in Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' is wicked and evil. In choosing a very high soprano for this role Mozart makes effective dramatic use of the voice's extreme upper range (to f'') to emphasize the queen's sinister character. This arrangement for piccolo trumpet is lowered one whole step from the original to c minor to facilitate performance for both soloist and accompaniment. P. K.
