Description:
The Legend of the Knight of Rue, composed by Jean-François Michel, is an epic and lyrical work arranged for a brass quartet: 2 trumpets and 2 trombones. In five movements, it tells the captivating story of a legendary knight through his adventures and passions. The awakening of the sleeping castle opens the narrative with a mysterious and majestic atmosphere and sets the stage for the epic journey. The second movement, "Tale of Battle", lets the brass sound off with powerful, rhythmic dialog and illustrates the knight's heroic battles. "Tale of Love", more tender and lyrical, explores the intimate and romantic side of the hero. In The Final Battle, the intensity reaches its climax with dramatic harmonies and martial motifs. Finally, The Funeral closes the work on a solemn and moving note, paying tribute to the knight's fate. The arrangement for trumpets and trombones underlines the richness of the timbres and the virtuosity of the performers. This narrative as well as musically captivating cycle transports the listener into a chivalric world full of bravery, passion and melancholy.
