Méditation by Jean-François Michel is a work of great collection and tonal depth, written for trumpet or flugelhorn, tuba and organ. The organ, chosen with very gentle stops, creates a subtle harmonic sound space that carries and envelops the brass entries. The trumpet, deliberately positioned at a distance and in a generous acoustic, allows a distant, almost mysterious voice to be heard - at once present and restrained. The tuba, positioned closer to the organ, lends the work a warm and supportive foundation and underlines the meditative character of the whole. The dialog between the three instruments unfolds both in space and in time, inviting the listener to listen inwardly and contemplatively. Premiered on February 11, 2006 by Jean-François Michel (trumpet), Guy Michel (tuba) and Guy Bovet (organ), this work focuses on resonance, silence and the spiritual dimension of sound.
