Description:
Rhapsody in Blue was first performed in February 1924 and was hastily composed in just a few weeks. Most critics praised Gershwin's novel approach to composition and the New York Sun wrote 'Mr. Gershwin has an irrepressible pack of talents'. This brass quintet arrangement has the first trumpet playing the opening clarinet glissando and then features most of the main themes. Gershwin's melodies are spread among the five instruments and this popular concert piece with its strong rhythms and lyrical melodies should appeal both to players and their audiences.
