Composed by Jean-François Bulart, "Rosine" is a work brimming with nostalgia and passion for the world of brass instruments. Originally written for three trombones and a tuba, the piece was expanded into a brass quintet thanks to the enthusiasm of trumpeter Thierry Caens, who was immediately captivated by the composition’s expressiveness. With "Rosine", the composer pays homage to the legendary album "Récital" by the Concert Arban—a recording that had a lasting impact on him during his studies at the Lille Conservatory under the direction of Claude Bourrez. Influenced by both classical music and jazz, "Rosine" combines lyrical lines, warm harmonies, and rhythmic energy. At the same time, the work tells a special human story: the belated encounter with Thierry Caens, sparked by the memory of a recording that has long since disappeared but has never been forgotten. After numerous discussions and several technical challenges, Rosine was finally completed in this version for brass quintet—serving as a musical bridge between tradition, memory, and contemporary creation.
