Description:
George Frideric Handel used three trumpets and timpani, and occasionally trombones, in certain passages in many of his oratorios and operas; specific compositions for brass are not known. Here a suite is presented in the arrangement for brass quartet. It is based on several dance movements that introduce Handel's opera 'Rodrigo'. The dances show a clear affinity to the brass in their melodic arrangement.
The original voice leading is preserved, occasionally single notes were octavated. Originally, the suite was intended for strings. In the arrangement for brass, a transposition was made one ouarte lower, so that amateur wind players can also play these interesting dance movements.
