Description:
The Summit Fanfare was written for the Summit Brass and David Hickman. Throughout the years I have written a number of pieces for the Summit Brass but never a fanfare, so when David asked for a piece to begin a concert I felt as though a fanfare was in order.
The Fanfare is based on a chord progression I used to open my Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra (1997). This progression is not the normal bright sort of fanfare sound but rather dark and even somewhat menacing in nature. This fanfare motive is soon replaced by a lighter and complicated motive which is very rhythmic in nature, but this fanfare theme returns to end the piece.
