Description:
In this Trio, Corrado Saglietti adopted a language that is both essential and refined. A pause, when used with purpose, can easily create an element of surprise in the musical discourse: its silence becoming music itself.
The piece is structured in three movements. In the first one, a carefree and slightly ironic theme contrasts with a second one, soulful and melancholic. In the second movement, a trumpet and trombone duet is followed by a sharply different motif played by the piano; but at last the three instruments begin a conversation. The brassy theme in octave that opens the final movement is very rhythmic and resolute, but a passionate melody takes over, its muted sound creating an evocative atmosphere. The reprise of the theme in octave and its epilogue close the Trio with a somewhat humorous sobriety, remarking the purposely essential style of the entire composition.
