Description:
The Musizierstunde Ensemble Time MZ 330
(5-part variable wind ensemble)
"Die Winterrose"—which symbolically describes the miracle of the Holy Night—aims to use songs and texts about the Christmas story to show that reflecting on the "Good News" of Christ’s coming into our world remains relevant throughout the ages. However, this reflective contemplation of our Christmas celebration should also encourage us to rediscover the message of Christmas. In an age when many people’s lives are almost exclusively oriented toward consumerism, serious-minded observers lament a dramatic loss of values. Even Christmas, which has evolved into the biggest commercial event of the year, is no exception. Kitschy, glittering, and Christmas-themed yet meaningless items flood the market. The Allgäu composer Kurt Gäble, for whom conveying and living out Christian values is very close to his heart, created "Die Winterrose," a profound work that seeks to remind us of the origins of Christmas through eight traditional songs. The moving message of the music can be further enhanced by reading the four text sections aloud and, optionally, incorporating a mixed choir, giving each performance a particularly lasting impact.
