The Egyptian March was one of the highlights of the Vienna Philharmonic's 2026 New Year's Concert. The work was first performed on July 6, 1869 in Pavlovsk, Russia. As a special feature, the piece contains oriental motifs and a 22-bar sequence in which the musicians sing The march was written by Johann Strauss to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869.
