Description:
Another fine example of the wind quintet genre, Piston's work is part whimsy, part meditation. Perfect for young students to play as well as analyze, this quintet affords glimpses of the composer's classic handling of harmony and counterpoint colored by some edgy dissonances, inventive use of hemiola, and themes based on the pentatonic scale.
