Description:
Louis Théodore Gouvy (1819-1898) was a French/German composer of the Romantic era. Though raised in a French-speaking household, due to his preference for instrumental music rather than opera, he spent the latter part of his life in Germany where he felt more appreciated. He wrote twenty-four orchestral works, including nine symphonies, and a significant number of chamber works, including several for wind ensembles. Despite being held in high regard by numerous master composers of his time such as Adam, Brahms, Berlioz, Reinecke, and Joachim, Gouvy's music had fallen into some obscurity until it was rediscovered in the late 20th century. PETTITE SUITE GAULOISE, Op. 90, among the many chamber works for which he was so celebrated in his time, is a wind nonet (1.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0) in four movements.
