Description:
The quartet 'do-re-mi-bassoon' was written by the composer Barbara Heller in 2009 for the bassoon quartet of the same name of the Frankfurt Youth Music Ensemble. Heller developed a memorable motif from the four notes c-d-e-f or do-re-mi-fa, which led to the naming of the composition. Using simple musical material, she elicits a remarkable tonal variety from the bassoon and discovers the mutability of this instrument. All four voices are equal: Motifs and melodic phrases are played to each other and continued. Heller encourages free interpretation and gives the players room to improvise on the motif themselves. 'do-re-mi-bassoon' is aimed at advanced music students and ambitious amateur musicians who enjoy playing together and want to exploit the tonal facets of the instrument.
