A Shade of Blue is four pieces for Clarinet and Piano. Harmonically the music is mainly tonal in character. But with the additional element of adapted modes and scales which do not always fall into a conventional major/minor relationship. Rhythmically the music does use syncopated rhythms and alternating time signatures to a small degree, which contributes towards a sense of fluid rhythmic movement in some of the music. Mark Whitefield
