Description:
Core 'Ngrato is one of the most famous Neapolitan songs of the early 20th century. Composed by Salvatore Cardillo in 1911, the song expresses with great intensity the pain of a love gone wrong. The title means "Ungrateful Heart" in the Neapolitan dialect and describes the anguish of a man confronted with the indifference of the woman he loves. The expressive melody combines tenderness, passion, and dramatic moments. Long, lyrical melodic phrases and striking contrasts heighten the piece’s emotional impact. The work soon became a classic of the Neapolitan repertoire and has been performed by numerous prominent singers. Its popularity spread far beyond Italy’s borders. To this day, "Core ‘Ngrato" remains a striking example of the richness and expressiveness of Neapolitan song.
