Through the clarinet, one of the main instruments of klezmer music, the spectrum of Ashkenazi Jewish music-making is immediately revealed in the present arrangements.
Eight pieces exemplify a variety of dance and singing styles, small ornaments and playing styles such as polished notes, melismas or chromatic runs are the typical spice of this music.
A variety of interpretation possibilities are offered, which also shows freedom for own arrangements.
The easily playable piano part offers bold bass lines, typical harmonic sequences, counter-voices to the melody and a variety of ornaments.
The editors
Günter Voit is a member of the "ensemble KONTRASTE" and a lecturer in clarinet at the Nuremberg University of Music.
Bettina Ostermeier is a musician and music teacher who lives in Nuremberg and plays the clarinet and other instruments, including in the klezmer formation "Huljet".
