Armand Vanderhagen

Premier Concerto

Amand Vanderhagen was not only one of the leading clarinettists of his time, but also a pioneering pedagogue whose teaching works influenced clarinet playing throughout Europe. As a Flemish musician who made a career in Paris, he combined the rich tradition of his homeland with the splendor of classical music. With his concertos and clarinet schools, he created works that were of great importance for a long time. In his first concerto, Vanderhagen showed what was already possible with the clarinet's early playing technique.

This newly discovered concerto invites you to discover the sound of a master who firmly anchored the clarinet in European music history.
