Description:
Sunrise Sparks is a work in five movements, conceived as a musical travel diary. It was written for two young cousins, Léa and Méline, who are both passionate about playing the cornet. The piece follows their imaginary journey through contrasting landscapes, each representing a stage in their discovery of the world. The journey begins with "Takeoff", a bright, rhythmic opening in which the excitement of departure is palpable in every note. The second movement, "Camels in the Desert", takes the listener on a slow, swaying desert hike under a blazing sun with oriental colors and a mysterious atmosphere. This is followed by "Jungle Rush", a lively dive into lush, dense vegetation, characterized by energetic rhythms and pulsating percussion. "Over the Ocean" offers a contemplative pause - a flight over the sea, carried by floating harmonies and lyrical lines. Finally, "Landing" brings the work to a virtuosic, energetic and luminous finale, in which the opening theme reappears but this time in reverse. The two cornets respond, merge, challenge and complement each other - like two friends traveling together, discovering, dreaming and growing side by side. Sunrise Sparks is as much a tribute to traveling as it is to the musical and human connection that unites the two young performers.
