Description:
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French composer who is often associated with the early Impressionist movement. He is best known for his evocative Piano compositions, from which these Two Pieces For ClarinetAndPiano have been transcribed.
The Golliwog's Cakewalk is taken from a suite of works inspired by Debussy's daughter and her toys. The cakewalk was a popular dance in the 1890's and 1900's, andisreflected in the syncopated ragtime style.
The Girl With Flaxen Hair is taken from Debussy's first book of preludes. Its title character is inspired by a poem about a Scottish maiden, who is supposedtosymbolise tranquillity and simplicity aspects which are reflected in both the melody and harmony.
