Description:
Georg Philipp Telemann composed thirty-six fantasias for solo instrument: twelve each for transverse flute, violin and viola da gamba. The fantasias for flute and violin are among Telemann's most popular works today, but not those for viola da gamba, which were largely unknown in the recent past until a copy of these fantasias was discovered in 2015.
Florist Leona Rötzsch has arranged these viola da gamba fantasias for the present edition, adding another dozen to the twelve fantasias for flute solo. Always careful with Telemann's tonal language, she skillfully used transpositions, diminutions and chord breaks to make these works, which are tailored to the viola da gamba, playable on the flute.
