Ancient Rites is a suite of five short movements for three players using five flutes: piccolo, 2 C flutes, alto flute and bass flute. The music is full of memorable melodies and charming harmonic piquancy, picturing ceremonies from the deep past of Britain's heritage in a beguiling and evocative way. All the instruments are used characteristically and this piece is a great way to introduce audiences to the colourful possibilities of the flute ensemble, and terrific fun to play!
