I imagined an electric shock that brings the musicians to life and whirls them around on an unstable, spinning, unpredictable dance floor. And for the second movement, my vision was that of a song with echoes of the blues ("almost a blues," I wrote in the score)—a gentle, enveloping melody over which the flute would retain a certain echo of the original swirls.
