Description:
The Lorraine-born flutist Niccolò Dôthel (1721-1810) was part of the core of the court orchestra in Florence, together with Nardini. Dôthel left numerous compositions for the flute. His long activity in Florence may have prepared the ground for a 'school' that combined playing styles of more French tradition (such as music for several flutes by Boismortier or Corrette) and stylistic elements especially of Italian violin music (think of the proximity to Nardini and Tartini, respectively). A good example is this flute trio.
