Description:
Peilei Shang won first prize in the 2016 Harald Genzmer Composition Competition with her composition Yin.The composition is reminiscent of traditional Chinese music and creates an individual and meaningful atmosphere through sound effects that are restrainedly embedded in the overall context. Special techniques in the flute and piano parts imitate the playing style of the traditional Chinese instruments xiao (a kind of bamboo flute) and qin (a plucked instrument).Yin is a challenging and distinctly fascinating work, for example, for concert and competition. Shang, who earned her bachelor's degree in Beijing in 2014 and is enrolled at HfMT Hamburg as an exchange student in Professor Manfred Stahnke's composition class, has composed a variety of small pieces for diverse instruments and musical genres and has already won several international prizes.
