About the composer Ulrich Hegnauer:
Brought up in the canton of Aargau, lives in the canton of Bern. 4 years trumpet at Aargau district school; then private lessons with Umberto Induni (radio symphony orchestra). Very active with trumpet in youth band, brass band, operetta and concert orchestra as well as soloist with organ. This was followed by military music training, conductor training and military band leader courses, after which he worked as a brass band conductor and regimental band leader. Compositions and arrangements for brass music, including festive music for a 1000-year anniversary celebration (signet, festive march and music for the festive song for choir and orchestra).
Main profession: Masch. Engineer HTL/FH; technical director, then owner of an engineering office.
After years of playing the trumpet, he switched to French horn and has since played horn in the Bern Concert Orchestra, in ensembles and as a member of other classical orchestras. For years he has also been an alphorn player and composer of alphorn pieces, including those for alphorns with organ, wind orchestra or other instrumentations.
In 2019 he was invited to create polyphonic alphorn compositions for the International Horn Days in Munich (about 160 horn players, with special alphorn workshop, lecturer Brigitte Halter). This resulted in 6-part alphorn pieces, and , performed at concerts in 2020 in Munich, Augsburg, Ulm.
