Description:
Celtic Suite by Jean-François Michel is a work in three movements that transports the listener to the musical world of the Celtic countries. From the very first bars, the composer creates a warm, narrative atmosphere that is strongly inspired by traditional melodies. The first movement, Little March, opens with a clear, lively theme whose regular rhythm and light accents are reminiscent of village parades and festive processions. In the second movement, Gesang, a wide-ranging, expressive melody unfolds, characterized by gentle nostalgia. The composition emphasizes an almost vocal line that is carried by fine harmonies and invites calm and reflection. The third movement, Gigue, forms a brilliant contrast: spirited, rhythmic and dance-like, it is based on traditional Irish and Scottish dances. Jumping motifs, lively rhythmic figures and a lively instrumental dialog give this finale an irresistible momentum. With its melodic charm, expressive variety and stylistic cohesion, the Celtic Suite is an accessible yet captivating work, ideal for showcasing the colors and characters of an instrumental ensemble.
