The composer's intention is provide natural horn players with new pieces of music that adheres as closely as possible to the norms of classical era musical style and technique. With this in mind this horn sonata best performed on period instruments, (natural horn and fortepiano). Nevertheless, the piece also sounds great on modern instruments, too. The horn part rewards the natural horn player with many stepwise and legato melodies. The horn and (forte)piano part have an equal share in presenting melodies throughout the piece.
