James Hook, who was already celebrated as a child prodigy at the age of 4, wrote compositions of almost every musical genre: instrumental solos, duets, trios, piano works with and without accompaniment, symphonic works, concertos, songs and polyphonic songs, dramatic works, even an oratorio. He had the greatest success with pieces of lighter, entertaining music. The 12 duettinos are entertaining music in the best sense of the word - they have catchy melodies, are loosely and cleverly written - real "hooks". The technical level is not demanding; Performed with differentiated articulation and wit, the 2-movement duettinos can quickly become a delight for players and listeners.
