Description:
With "Great God of Love" (1839) and "Lay a Garland" (1840), this edition includes two particularly melodious madrigals by Robert L. Pearsall (1795–1856). The English composer had a keen interest in Renaissance music. These influences are evident in his madrigals, yet they never devolve into mere stylistic imitations. Pearsall skillfully combines elements of early music with the Romantic sound aesthetics of his time.
Raphael B. Meyer has arranged both works for recorder ensemble or orchestra (SSAAATTB). The madrigals take on a special charm when performed in a low 8' instrumentation (TTBBBGbGbSb).
The edition is accompanied by a download section where recordings of all parts can be downloaded and streamed for practice.
