Abendlieder

The four-part chorales and song settings included in this collection are particularly well-suited for performance by a recorder quartet (SATB, though most pieces can also be played with SAAB), but can also be performed with violas da gamba or other instruments. The pieces selected by Raphael B. Meyer are slow in tempo and technically straightforward, making the evening songs easy to sight-read. They are ideal, for example, for music seminars or rehearsal weekends as an enjoyable way to end the day: after a few evening songs, one drifts off to sleep particularly peacefully.
