Band 3 - just published
The second volume of our alto recorder school comprises 72 pages illustrated throughout in color with varied songs and pieces as well as technical exercises and improvisations. Each booklet also contains 4 play-along CDs on which all the pieces are recorded with recorder and accompaniment.

What's new in volume 3

The German musicologist Axel Brüggemann has written five longer texts on various aspects of music especially for our school. These reading islands run through the entire course and invite reflection and research. Additional inspiration is also provided by the image compositions in which our illustrator Roland Ryser translates the key messages of these texts on a visual level

1. pieces

Compositions by Daniel Hellbach
A large proportion of the pieces were written by Daniel Hellbach. These compositions are precisely tailored to the respective learning steps.

Folkslieder
The course contains a wide range of folk songs from all over the world, including folk music from the Balkans and pieces from South America.

Baroque music
A number of the pieces are original compositions from the Baroque period, recorded on the CDs with recorder, harpsichord and viola da gamba.

Pop/rock music
Our course also includes some well-known pop/rock music titles, including 'Because of you' (Kelly Clarkson) or 'Take Five' (Paul Desmond)

CD recordings
It is important to us that the students hear all the different musical styles in authentic recordings. The 4 CDu2019s were therefore recorded live with acoustic instruments in different instrumentations:
- Harpsichord, viola da gamba/violoncello
- Symphony orchestra, violin, accordion
- Folk group Balkan music
- Rock band
Most of the pieces are recorded in two different tempos, with and without recorder.

2. technical exercises
The exercises called 'training' can be used to practise technical sequences.

3. improvisations
This volume focuses on the interaction between harmony and melody in the improvisations. From the simplest drone accompaniments, the structure progresses step by step to entire chord sequences that are improvised over. The notes that go with the accompaniments are given first, later the pupil invents them himself or herself.
