Every Sunday afternoon, 21-year-old Edward Elgar (1857–1934) rehearsed with his brother and three friends in a garden shed behind his father’s music store. He himself played the bassoon in the wind quintet known as "The Sunday Band." Due to the ensemble’s atypical composition (consisting of two flutes, an oboe, clarinet, and bassoon), Elgar composed the pieces for his quintet himself, including "Harmony Music No. 1"
